I answered a request for custom work back in September to do a re-creation dress. The request asked if anyone could make a dress worn in an episode of “Pushing Daisies”. The requester didn’t have a photo of the dress and I couldn’t find the episode online. I really love to re-create dresses seen in movies and on TV, so I did a little Googling and found this photo in a forum chat about the show.
I got an emphatic “Yes!” that’s the dress. So, after a couple of conversations, I won the bid to do the work. We looked through several online swatches of fabric and finally decided on Michael Miller’s Vintage Cherries. My customer had just joined Jenny Craig and didn’t want to fill out the measurement form until she had reached a certain goal. So Fall and Winter came and went, and I had other projects to work on. Vintage Cherries sat on a shelf waiting for the day.
A couple of weeks ago, the measurements came in. Audrey had lost 22 pounds! I was very excited to get to work on this dress. I drew and pattern-graded, measured and cut, added a full muslin lining (no sticky polyester here!). Here is the final result!
I had lots of fun and am looking forward to my next custom project. Let me know if you need something – for any occasion 🙂
